Bug-Eyes (ギョロ目 Gyoro me?), typically always referred to by his nickname rather than his birth name (Thorfinn), is a trader working with Leif Ericson, his adoptive father. A former slave, Bug-Eyes was bought by Leif under the false assumption that he was Thorfinn, son of Thors.
He joins Thorfinn in his journey to settle in Vinland.
Appearance[]
Bug-Eyes is a man in his 20s. He is thin, blonde, and is of average height and weight. He has a small beard covering his chin and wears his hair in a shaggy look. He has wide eyes, earning him the nickname "Bug-Eyes". His features are similar to Thorfinn Karlsefni, though his hair is a darker blonde and he has blue eyes.
Personality[]
Known for not only having big eyes but also sharp eyesight, he is an excellent sailor and a skilled merchant who wants to live a comfortable and sophisticated life.
He is bluntly honest, pragmatic, goofy, and whimsical, he often makes sarcastic remarks to his friends and Leif. He speaks what's on his mind without thinking of the surroundings or filtering words which make him clash with the crew at times. He shows some intelligence and is the voice of reason at moments, but it doesn't stop him from being a fool. He represses painful memories and avoids them, believing that time heals all wounds[3]
Bug-Eyes fears responsibility and constantly empathizes not to rely on him for anything but the sea, but he appears to be a valuable member of the settlement, mapping out Epekwitk, and working as the interpreter for the village
History[]
Background[]
Bug-Eyes' parents sold him when they lost their farmland. Although he was old enough to remember it, he repressed the memory and believes that they were somehow separated.[4] He never saw them again and has no idea where they are [5] He was bought by Leif Ericson as a slave and given his freedom and his life.

Trivia[]
- Although the information in the Vinland Saga Official Guidebook first indicated that Bug-Eyes was 30 years old upon his first appearance (Chapter 75, in October 1018),[2] Yukimura later corrected that the age given in the guidebook was a mistake and that Bug-Eyes is the same age as Thorfinn.[1]
