Out of the Cradle (ゆりかごの外 Yurikago no Soto?) is the 38th chapter of the Vinland Saga series.
Overview[]
Atli wakes up to find his comrades dead, savagely killed by the berserker Bjorn. Still under the effects of the mushroom and out of opponents, Bjorn notices Canute and Willibald and heads their way. Canute stands and faces him without flinching.
Summary[]
Bjorn runs out of opponents
Atli gets up, having presumably lost consciousness when Thorfinn kicked him off of his horse when the cart crashed. He is startled to see his dead comrades strewn about in the snow. Bjorn, still under the effects of the berserker mushroom and raging on despite the knife and spear lodged in his bloody back, caves the last standing man's face in and notices Willibald and Canute sitting nearby. He screams and heads their way.
Canute states he is sick of it and stands to face Bjorn
Willibald notes the fight is over, but that the winner has lost his sanity. He suggests that Canute flee. Canute asks where a sane man can be found at all, in a world where everyone is the same and no one understands what it means to love, or the meaning of life, or death, or of their own battles. Canute stands and says he is sick of this. He unflinchingly faces Bjorn, who is now in front of him.
