Flott is the sole survivor of Markland, found by Vargr and his men. He is brought to Arnheid Village and tells the inhabitants of Markland's fate and of the Lnu succumbing to disease.

Flott is a blond adult man with a full, but short, beard. His hair is parted in the middle. When he was first found by Vargr, he was emaciated and dirty.

Flott was an inhabitant of Markland, participating in trade with the Lnu. As the Lnu seemed fond of red fabric, Flott asked Vargr to bring some back from Greenland on his next regular delivery. Come spring, the natives stopped coming to the village. Two weeks later, they turned hostile and started raining arrows on Markland day and night, though they never came into the village. Flott told the other villagers he would go back to Greenland; the others discussed rebuilding the settlement elsewhere. Eventually, they left Flott behind. Flott spent his days running from the Lnu's arrows, eventually getting shot in the behind. He hid in the mountains, eating fruits and berries. In the early summer, he heard Thorfinn banging on pots, but thought it must be the natives. One day, while by the river catching fish, Flott saw a native wash up and assumed something happened in a village upstream. He went up the river to investigate and found all of the natives dead, left without a burial. Thorfinn and the others find out from Flott that the Lnu succumbed to disease. Styrk deduces that they got the disease from interacting with the people of Markland, and attacked them because they concluded the disease came from the Nords. They used arrows because they were too afraid to get close.
