Ga'aoqi is a native Lnu warrior.
Appearance[]
Ga'aoqi has a pronounced receding hairline, medium-length dark hair, and no eyebrows. He wears face paint; a white line from his forehead to the tip of his nose, a vertical white line on his chin, and four diagonal lines (two light and two dark) on each cheek. He wears a thin headdress with three dark feathers on each side, and a short cape made of dark feathers.
Personality[]
Ga'aoqi appears to have a fascination with Norse items, particularly the sword brought by Ivar, which he refers to as a "Big Knife." He believes that obtaining it for his tribe would provide them with an advantage in their "war" against the Nordic settlers. Much like Garm, he displays a straightforward, restive and ruthless demeanour, although not as playful and humorous. His brutality is further evidenced by his tribe's actions of killing a settler and a pregnant woman, burning their house down, and casually asking the fatally injured pregnant settler about the whereabouts of the "big knife", in contrast to the other tribes that at least held gatherings to discuss matters of war with Miskwekepu’j before resorting to direct conflict (which Ga’aoqi believes are just playing friends before fighting). Ga’aoqi shows unwavering determination in his quest to locate the sword by approaching the home in which Gudrid is giving birth, as he casually denies his tribe member’s request to engage Cordelia in a one-on-one fight and instead orders the members to “get back to work” and use their bows and arrows for a quick kill, without a shred of hesitance.
History[]
Background[]
At some point in his life, Ga'aoqi became a warrior, presumably due to his combat-loving nature.
Vinland Arc[]
When an Lnu shaman named Miskwekepu'j brings all the warriors from nearby tribes together in order to discuss driving the Nordic people out of Vinland, Ga'aoqi decides to use the meeting as an opportunity to attack Vinland. Along with a group of warriors, he begins pillaging some of the Nordic homes in hopes of finding a sword, which he has heard rumours about and wishes to own himself.
Ga'aoqi inspects one of the Nordic homes. A fellow tribesman asks if he can keep a small metal knife, which Ga'aoqi agrees to, as he’s trying to find a much larger one. His partner tells him that the house doesn’t have one, and suggests that swords may be rare. Ga'aoqi asks a dying pregnant woman if they have any “big knives". Ga'aoqi tries to describe what he is looking for, but the woman is incapable of giving a response due to them not speaking the same language. Ga'aoqi’s partner tells him not to get too close to the Nords, as he might get sick. Ga'aoqi however believes that sickness won’t be an issue, as long as he obtains a sword. One of the warriors tells him that they don’t have enough time to look for swords more thoroughly. Ga'aoqi orders the home to be burned down and they watch the burning wreckage. Ga'aoqi announces that he wants to do more “treasure hunting” and chooses a nearby house as his next target, where they come upon Cordelia in front of the door. When one of the warriors asks Ga'aoqi if he can fight her, Ga'aoqi tells the warriors to get back to work and to use their bows and arrows instead. After Cordelia is pierced with several arrows, yet stands her ground in front of the door and tells them they won't get into the house, Ga'aoqi stabs her with a spear. When she doesn't visibly react, Ga'aoqi states there probably isn't a "big knife" in the house either way and tells everyone to leave. One of the warriors points out that Cordelia is only one person and that they could take her on, but given her reaction to the spear, Ga'aoqi believes that Cordelia must be the Nords' strongest warrior and wouldn't die even if they all attacked.
