Ganglati holding Ivar's sword at the Thing in Chp. 195.

At some point in the past, Ganglati, Styrk and Ivar had their farm taken over by Halfdan. They have been working under him since, with the intention of one day getting their farmland back. After watching Thorfinn's announcement about wanting to settle in Vinland, he followed Styrk and Ivar's lead and joined the expedition. While he was only following the orders of Ivar and Styrk, he was ultimately the one to smuggle a sword into Vinland.

In Vinland, Ganglati continued to stay by Styrk and Ivar's side, remaining quiet and only doing what he was asked, such as restraining Cordelia when she tried to leave to tell Thorfinn about the smuggled sword. When the settlement was attacked by non-Lnu natives led by Ga'aoqi, he followed Ivar and Styrk to attempt to protect the survivors. When they were shot at with arrows, he used himself as a shield to protect Ivar and was ultimately killed when one of the arrows struck him in the back of the head.

Trivia[]

  • We do not know Ganglati's relationship with Ivar and Styrk at this time. Styrk referred to Ivar as "brother" in the initial debut of the three characters,[1] so there is a possibility that the gang of Ivar, Styrk, and Ganglati is actually a group of siblings.
  • In Norse Mythology, Ganglati was a servant to Hel, the Goddess of Death. His name means "Tardy" or "Lazy Walker".[2][3]
