Appearance[]
Kitpui is an older adult Lnu. He has forehead lines, crow's feet, short angled eyebrows, and brown eyes that typically appear nearly shut. He has long dark hair, worn in wrapped brains. Kitpui wears three necklaces, has a tunic collar adorned by claws, and has a fur pouch hanging from a cloth belt.
Personality[]
Kitpui is a calm, level and respectful individual who is kind and caring to those around him. As Chief, he takes the time to listen to his tribe members and consider their points. An optimistic man, he decides to approach the settlers at Arnheid Village amicably despite Miskwekepu'j cautions. When he disagrees with a suggestion, he is nevertheless grateful for it and respectfully explains his train of thought, as seen when Miskwekepu'j suggested that the Nords be driven away as soon as possible. Kitpui assures him that he will be extra vigiliant about the Nords, but chooses to be optimistic about the future, as the tribe's rapport with the Nords has so far only been positive. He keeps his tribe's best interest at the forefront and believes that learning more from the settlers would be what's best for everyone. He tells Thorfinn and the Arnheid Village settlers that he believes they can keep learning from each other and prosper on the land, showing his positive outlook.
History[]
When some of his people come with more observations about the Nords settling in Vinland, Kitpui calmly says that they must come to a decision soon. When Miskwekepu'j arrives, he stands and tells everyone to quiet down to hear what he has to say. After telling the tribe what he knows, Kitpui asks if he believes they should drive the white-skinned people off of the island. Miskwekepu'j states that he is simply an adviser, and has told them what he knows. Kitpui chooses to approach the Nords amicably, accompanied by Plmk and other tribe members.
In the winter, Kitpui goes to check on Miskwekepu'j. Niskawaji'j tells him that he has been future-seeing for four days. Sometime later, Miskwekepu'j tells the Kitpui tribe of his vision: the Nords will destroy their forests and their tribe, bring more and more people from across the sea, and tear and devour the land. He insists that they must drive the Norsemen out of their land to prevent it from happening. He asks Kitpui for his thoughts. Kitpui tells him that the tribe has often greatly benefited from his advice, and that they'll keep a close eye on the Nords and be on guard against the appearance of the weapons Miskwekepu'j saw in his vision. However, Kitpui wants to make everyone's life easier, and wants them to learn what good they can from the Norsemen. Miskwekepu'j accepts Kitpui's judgment, though he still plans to do whatever it takes to drive the Norsemen out.
Kitpui comes to speak with Thorfinn and the Norsemen, accompanied by Plmk, Miskwekepu'j, Niskawaji'j and several others. He partakes in the customary smoking of tobacco before the meeting. Kitpui thanks the Nords for their invitation and tells them he prays for the safety of their missing friends in Markland. He tells them he hasn't heard any rumours about the attack, and that it was the deed of a different tribe. He tells them that they possess wonderful crafts and that there are many things the Lnu wish to learn from them; he proposes that they live by helping each other out, as he believes they can prosper together on the land. Kitpui and the others leave quickly after Miskwekepu'j puts his plan into motion and gets his hand cut off.
Plmk finds Miskwekepu'j, who was in hiding. He tells him that the Nords are not trying to kill him, and that he must come quickly, or the Kitpui tribe will lose its chief. Miskwekepu'j comes and sees the sick and the dead. Plmk tells him that the sick get a high fever and that their skin turns black. Miskwekepu'j lists off the medicinal herbs he will need and asks to see Kitpui. Kitpui, wheezing, thanks him for coming. He apologizes and asks him to take care of his family.

Trivia[]
- Manga continuity error: When Thorfinn spots a group of Lnu arriving at Arnheid Village at the end of Chapter 183, Kitpui is part of the group. However, he is no longer present when they start speaking to Thorfinn at the beginning of Chapter 184 (presumably minutes later)
