Sverkel (スヴェルケル Suverukeru?) is the elderly father of Ketil, living on the ground of his son's farm in Jutland, Denmark.

Appearance[]

Sverkel is an elderly man who closely resembles both his son and his grandson Thorgil. His top hair is completely thinned out and he appears to be very frail in stature, which does not keep him from harvesting crops on his own though. He has no eyebrows and a goatee.

Personality[]

At first glance, Sverkel seems to be quite a grumpy person, but he appears to actually be soft at heart, shown when he gives advice and help to his son's slaves in exchange for labor. This is further implied by his deep bond with Snake, even though they are depicted fighting a lot. Sverkel is strong-willed, hardworking and stubborn.

History[]

Sverkel helps out Thorfinn and Einar by lending them a horse and his farming utensils in exchange for them cleaning his house and working in his fields.

Eventually, his back gives out (Chapter 73) and he can no longer work in the fields. He is bedridden and can no longer walk.
