Vagn revealed to [[Thorfinn]] that Floki was the one who had hired [[Askeladd]] to assassinate [[Thors Snorresson|Thors]]. He had learned this by chance after his men captured [[Atli]] and tortured him for information. Vagn urged Thorfinn to avenge his father and become the leader of the Jomsvikings.

Floki later sent [[Garm]] to infiltrate Vagn's camp as a spy, and Garm took it upon himself to start a fight in which Vagn was immediately beheaded. [[Thorkell]], who had been sent by Floki to battle Vagn's forces, was so infuriated at losing his intended prey that he rallied both his own men and Vagn's remaining soldiers against Floki.
