Ymir is Floki's "secret weapon". Despite his appearance, he is seemingly human, as he is shown to speak and understand human speech.
Appearance[]
Ymir is an extremely large, hairy human with a monkey-like appearance and pointed teeth. He goes barefoot and wears nothing but a sleeveless tunic.
Personality[]
Ymir appears to be very committed to Floki. He calls him "papa" and readily agrees to fight Thorkell for him. Despite his size and strength, he is not immune to fear, as shown when he tells Floki he's scared after Thorkell punches him through a wall. He either likes food or is deprived of it, as Floki motivates him to get up to fight again by promising him as much food as he wants.
History[]
Ymir's background and origin are unknown.
During the battle at Jomsborg, when Thorkell breaks into the house Floki is in, the latter calls forth Ymir to fight him off. Ymir punches Thorkell through a wall and Floki instructs him to finish him off. Ymir readily agrees, but Thorkell gets up and punches Ymir through another wall in turn. Ymir tells Floki he's scared, but Floki tells him to fight Thorkell for his sake and that he'll let him eat to his heart's content if he kills him. Ymir gets up to fight Thorkell again and tells Floki he'll try very hard. While Thorkell is occupied by his fight with Ymir, Floki takes the opportunity to flee with his men, as "monsters should play among themselves."
Thorkell eventually wins the fight and Ymir loses consciousness. Ymir is tied up and appears defeated as Thorkell tries to convince Asgeir to let him "keep" Ymir. Asgeir points out that Ymir probably requires a lot of food, but Thorkell retorts that he'll give him half of his own. Thorkell pouts about not being allowed to keep Ymir.

Trivia[]
- In Norse mythology, Ymir is the first living being and the first Giant. It produced children by itself, one of them Odin's grandmother. Odin and his brothers Vili and Ve ultimately killed Ymir, and Ymir's body became the building blocks of the universe.
